Im more lenient towards the board or the controller doing this but i would need to prove it before i can RMA the board if it is the cause.

I should also mention that a reinstall of Windows will not resolve the issue as the clicking still happens in the Bios so Windows is the not the cause. Maybe there is a setting in the Bios i can set. I have enabled High Performance Power profile in Windows and set "Turn off hard disk after" to Never. It seems to be when the drives are idle that this happens. If i hammer the drives with Seagate tools "Long Test" i don't have the clicking issue at all. Given all the documentation and physical label`s on the board i found this to be quite odd and im not sure if this is a contributor to my issue.ĭoes anyone have any suggestions i can try. Update Bios from 1102 - 1703 (Most Recent) - No changeĬheck Bios to ensure Sata Config is set to AHCI for ports 1 - 4 How can i have 3 faulty HDD`s in the space of a few months? I dont believe it to be a HDD issue at all. I`ve placed this information on Tom`s hardware forum and ive been told, its a HDD issue but i beg to differ. Created my partitions, copied my content back and am now using the drive`s live and low and behold i have the exact same problem as i had on the 3tb drive. So ive replaced it with 2 x Seagate Barracuda 2tb drives (The E Seres). So i made the assumption the 3tb drive was faulty.
But given my experience in IT this is not a common thing to occur. Everything still works fine even when this happens.

This happens randomly and inconsistently but does not effect anything on the PC whatsoever. Power down-power up-power down-power up and then the drive would be fine. Now after a few weeks i started to notice that the new drive would click and when i say click its more of a quick command like this. Basically a one to one copy and the OS will never know. On this drive i created the 6 GPT partitions to move all my data across, therefore preventing a re-link of all my content. Now i made the decision i needed more space as my steam library expanded massively during the steam summer sale, so i purchased a single WD Green 3tb drive. From memory 1 was 500 gig and the other was 1.5tb. Up until a few months ago i was using 2 old sata drives for my storage.
Being in IT Industry most of my adult life i cannot for the life of me figure out this problem.ġ6gig Corsair Vengeance DDR3 RAM (All 4 DIMM Slots Occupied) My problem is a tricky one and as such im really just over it. I'm new here but ive had my Asus Crosshair 5 Formula for well over a year now and am loving the board.
